FAQs

What is jumpingMinds?

jumpingMinds is your go-to safe space for every mood.It is an anonymous, secure and empathetic community that allows users to connect with a network of like-minded peers.Whether feeling delighted or low, Snuggles and your peers are always there to listen, understand and encourage you.

Can jumpingMinds help me in a crisis situation?

- jumpingMinds is not designed to assist with crisis such as abuse, severe mental health conditions that may cause feelings of suicide, harm to self, and any other medical emergencies.
- In any of these cases and otherwise, jumpingMinds cannot offer any medical or clinical advice. It can only suggest that users seek advanced and professional medical help.
- For such situations, we offer a separate SOS section, where you can find relevant resources and helplines.

What all jumpingMinds can help you with?

- jumpingMinds can help you manage your emotions and thoughts by providing you a safe and secure outlet for your feelings.
- “Chat with a Peer” is private, one-on-one and available on demand. We encourage the diverse expression of self in an anonymous exchange. You can talk to empathetic and caring peers without any fear of judgement.

- We also provide a variety of self-help tools and techniques that encourage you to maintain your mental well-being and relieves you of anxiety. PS: We’re soon planning to launch “mCorners” & “Inspire” sections in the app.
-We are dedicated to introducing our users to the amazing benefits of sharing and listening.

How is talking to a peer different from talking to a professional?

- Peers are users like you and everyone else, who have first hand experience with mental health issues. They understand the importance of listening and can offer useful suggestions based upon their life experiences..
- We make sure our Peers undergo training designed to polish their active listening skills and communicate the responsibilities they have been entrusted with.
- However, Peers are not fit to give any expert or medical advice. Trained professionals have undergone years of training to earn an accredited qualification in their respective fields and thus can help you manage any medical crisis.

How’s jumpingMinds different from other Mental wellness apps?

- jumpingMinds team has researched over months and have learnt three important things.
First, our country’s healthcare infrastructure is not yet fully-developed to support the growing mental health issues. We have less than 4000 therapists in India with approximately 7.5% of our population affected. We have hardly 3 therapists per 100,000 peopleSecond, people aren’t always looking for solutions or their problems fixed. Most times, they just want to talk through their emotions and issues, with someone who can empathize without judgement.Last but not the least, security and privacy is pivotal.
- So, we decided to create a free, safe and anonymous Peer-to-Peer chat, where users can unburden themselves without any fear of judgement.Along with this, we also provide a bundle of self-help tools that will help you relieve your stress and express your emotions.

Peer FAQ

How do I connect with a #mWarrior?

- “Find a Peer” button (or ‘+’ icon) on the bottom navigation bar.
- “Via Snuggles Chat”: Ask snuggles to connect you to a peer during the conversation

My Peer is inappropriate, what do I do?

- Move out of the communication :- End chat between you and the Peer using the end chat button from the chat settings on the top right corner.
- Rate and Review :- Leave a written review for your Peer. You can find the star review button in your chat window. We use your written reviews to give Peers direct feedback on how to improve. Please keep your reviews honest and thoughtful. We are all here to grow together.
- Report the Peer :- Report Peer from the chat settings. Please use this only if you feel this Peer could be harmful for other members as well.

My member account is deactivated, what should I do?

- Your account was likely disabled for a violation of terms of service. We remove members and peers who are reported for being abusive, harmful or involved in a chat that is sexual in nature.
- If you feel this was done in error, please email to let us know. We will review your account and get back to you within 3 to 5 days of your submission.

My peers keep referring me to Crisis resources or therapy and ending the chat. Why?

- Our peers are not trained to deal with crisis situations, so if you are deemed potentially harmful to yourself or others, they are obligated to share relevant resources to you. Since Peers are also users like you and everyone else, they can choose to end the chat if the conversation is triggering or unsafe for them.
- Over the internet it is very difficult to reasonably confirm if someone is truly in crisis or not, so we err on the side of caution for both your and the community’s safety.
- In cases of issues or topics, where our Peers don’t feel empowered to talk or feel it is better suited for a trained professional, they can refer you to the crisis resources and end the chat.
- While our goal is to provide support to everyone, we have limits on the level of support we are able to offer via our Peers.

I need access to my past conversations, how and where can I find it?

- Yes, your conversations with your Peers can be accessed from the "Your chats" tab in your app.
- Generally, your chats are automatically purged after some time from the jumpingMinds system. Post this time, there will be no way to recover such chats.

- If you are in a Peer chat, please refer the person to the crisis resources: like suicide hotline 1800-121-3667 or https://hellolifeline.org.
- After you give the referral information, we request that you professionally disconnect from the chat by saying something like this: “I can tell you are going through a very hard time right now. I encourage you to reach out to the resources I have provided for extra support. As a Peer, I am able to show you empathy and compassion, but jumpingMinds is not a crisis management center and I am not trained to help you through this difficult situation. In a few moments, I am going to leave the chat to provide you the space to reach out to the crisis centers. I am still more than willing to support you as your Peer and will check in with you shortly.”
